Supporting child well-being

We believe that access to education and supporting child well-being is globally-recognized as a solution to the cycle of poverty as it addresses many of the other issues that can keep communities vulnerable.

Our Empowerment Initiative

Our empowerment initiative involves various youth programs on sanitary and menstrual health hygiene; the benefits of charitable giving and how they can make a difference.

Reusable Sanitary Care

Secondly, we focus on raising funds to manufacture and donate reusable sanitary care products, such as menstrual and postpartum products, and incontinence or baby & adult diapers.

A Global Issue

Our primary project focuses on girls’ and women’s dignity and their right to accessible menstrual supplies. A global issue signifying the lack of access to affordable, hygienic menstrual products, and the management of menstruation with dignity.

This project addresses a wide range of challenges we face such as;

– Health and safety
– Job creation
– Economic development
– Skills development and transfer
– Social and educational

The need for reusables

A number of global studies can be cited to show varying degrees of absenteeism due to menstruation. According to Unicef South Africa’s chief of communications Toby Fricker “Lack of menstrual products is one of a number of issues that contribute to absenteeism – it is a combination of issues such as lack of sanitation, pain, lack of products and social stigmas, to name a few”.

Some eventually end up dropping out of school altogether. Basic survival is a priority for these families and there simply isn’t enough money to afford disposable pads every month.

Obtaining an education is a powerful resource that can alleviate poverty and restore hope for these girls. A key consideration to a sustainable solution to school absenteeism is the need for reusable sanitary pads. These are washed and reused, as you would any item of clothing, like underwear. These reusable sanitary pads can be used for the duration of a high school girl’s career, for much less than the cost of disposable pads.

Several community leaders, who have already identified a need for reusable sanitary pads within their communities have reached out to us.

We are currently paying a local clothing manufacturer (CMT) to make a number of reusable menstrual pads for distribution.

Offer youth empowerment programs on: increasing access to sanitary care and education around sanitary and menstrual health hygiene; Charitable giving; Teaching youth about the benefits of starting their own non-profit company.

Our purpose is to strike a balance between our social objectives and financial goals so that we may realise our dreams of a world where basic necessities such as sanitary care products are accessible to those in need, whether for menstruation, postpartum, incontinence or baby & adult diapers.

Messages of Support

I wish Gain Through Giving all the success with their noble venture in keeping our next generation of mothers safe, healthy, comfortable and able to continue with their education in a dignified manner. This much needed initiative augurs well for our environment and introduces alternative and more cost effective alternatives for our young generation. May you grow from strength to strength and expand your helping hands to where it’s needed most.

Shihaam

Congratulations on a wonderful and much needed project. The idea of a re-usable, eco-friendly and natural alternative product for both young females and more mature women at affordable pricing comes at just the right time.  This is a deeply meaningful venture run by a small but sincere and committed group of women who also aim to create jobs for young females. Well done! Happy Women’s Day today and every other day 🙂
